Nothing here is ever overwritten.
A write blocker is a small piece of laboratory equipment. Placed between an investigator and a disk, it lets every bit be read and not one bit be changed — the evidence stays exactly as it was found. This site borrows its name, and its discipline. Everything in the collection is acquired, examined and documented; nothing is restored, refinished or improved. The objects are the record, and the record is write protected.
I work in hardware security, and I collect the machines that made the industry I work in: processors and the chips around them, the media that carried software from hand to hand, the small electronics that put computing in pockets, and the magazines and boxed software that sold all of it. The catalogue shows the part of the shelves that has been photographed and written up; it grows as the cataloguing does.
